2015 is an important year for nutrition in Ethiopia with the launch of the 2nd National Nutrition Program, a new phase of the Productive Safety Net Program, which has been made nutrition sensitive and the start of the second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP), which runs from 2015-2020.

To maximise the opportunities such a focus offers, Transform Nutrition, IFPRI’s Ethiopia Strategy Support Program and POSHAN (Partnerships and Opportunities to Strengthen and Harmonize Actions for Nutrition in India) are organising a one day conference in Ethiopia on Monday 15 June 2015. Together for Nutrition 2015: Evidence on Working across Sectors for Improved Nutrition in Ethiopia will be held at the Hilton in Addis Ababa.

Together for Nutrition is a platform for learning and facilitating discussion around the challenging task of bringing diverse sectors together to improve maternal and child nutrition.

This initiative began with Together for Nutrition 2014 in New Delhi organised by POSHAN  and Transform Nutrition. Together for Nutrition has produced a number of outputs including a series of implementation notes, blogs and debates on social media via #T4N2014.

This year, bringing together national policy makers, national and international researchers, donors and implementers this conference will present the most recent evidence on the major nutritional issues in Ethiopia and contribute to the ongoing local policy debate.

A draft programme for Together for Nutrition 2015 will be available soon. We can anticipate a number of sessions for presentation and debate including:

  • Food and nutrition in Ethiopia: Trends and drivers
  • The role of nutrition-specific interventions in shaping nutrition behaviors
  • Social protection, agriculture, gender and nutrition
  • New horizons for social science research on nutrition in Ethiopia

We will also have a number of invited poster presentations which will showcase programmatic experiences of working across sectors to improve nutrition in Ethiopia.
